If you liked/loved Chuck then this is a good read.

This is a great way to revisit the series and look into the emotional struggles of the characters. Mainly about Chuck and Sara's journey it does touch on the other characters journeys as well, save Jeffster. I do wish that there had been more about them, however, maybe it was poetic that there wasn't more as this book deals with the emotional arch types found in the series. Not sure that Jeffster quite fits. As a Chuck fan I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to any Chuck fan, but I would recommend rewatching the series first. I know that I'm going to start the series over as it reminded me of how much fun it was the first time, and I will watch with a more critical eye this time.

A must read for lovers of the TV series "Chuck"!

I recommend this book for anybody who is intrigued with "Chuck"! It covers all five seasons and a wide variety of topics. This is definitely written for those looking for in-depth analysis. The author describes the themes in the series that really add depth and meaning to the overall story. Plus, the author substantiates all his points with specific details in the text. The book is so insightful that I wondered if the author was related to one of the writers of the show who gave him the inside scoop. I'd love to hear what others think.

Hey it's about Chuck

Mildly interesting if you're fascinated by anything Chuck related. But there's a lot of gratuitous stretching. Author is a high school English teacher and in places you kind of feel like you're back in high school. I haven't been able to finish it, despite my enthusiasm for the show,

FIVE SPANKINGLY GOOD STARS!

I've given this book a five star rating. If I could have given it more, I surely would have. A Condo With Two Views is my first encounter with the writings of Al Daltrey. And oh my goodness, what a pleasure it was. So how did this book get its title? Let me explain!

This book revolves around two protagonists, Chloe and Jack Gibbs. They have just married and have moved into their new home. A condo that has two spectacular views. The living room faces north with a view of the water and Alcatraz. The view that faces south was a busy area of shops and restaurants. I also had the feeling that the title includes the layout of this book which gives you two views. Jack’s POV and Chloe’s POV. I absolutely loved the idea of hearing both points of view as I’ve not read many that have done this. It certainly made for an interesting read.

Jack and Chloe have a Dom / Sub relationship and as a married couple, slipped in and out of their roles quite easily. A couple that genuinely loved each other and would do anything for each other. At the sound of Jack’s Dom voice Chloe would automatically go into sub mode. Head down, yes master. It was like he had flipped a switch that was so easily done. The trust she places in him has no boundaries or limits. Everything that was asked of her, she would do. Pleasing her husband is what she lived for. As a Dom, he seemed to set her quite a few challenges. These challenges excited them both. Each chapter of this book gave you a completely new scenario to follow. And a new challenge was always set.

With having both point of views, I was able to delve into the depths of Chloe's mind and literally see and hear how she would go about the challenges set by her Dom. Her determination to succeed was second to none. If she was at all unable to fulfil the challenges set before her, Chloe would not be happy. And not succeeding was not an option. The challenges normally consisted of her serving others in a sexual manner. Their sexual relationship was loving as a married couple. As a Master and his pet, the pain he inflicted on her was quite an eye-opener. I began to wonder just how much pain Chloe could endure, but a true submissive doesn't appreciate softness in her dominant. And the pain was a complete turn on for Chloe. The use of a flogger, a riding crop and a cane held me in awe. What a trooper Chloe was. The pain must have been excruciating. She loved it!

For this couple, pain brings pleasure, pleasure brings pain. All I say is thank god for subspace! A spacey serene feeling which is less bothered by pain. Yes, I did some research on this subject! One of the last challenges set by Jack was a step too far for Chloe. As the perfect submissive, she was to serve a business associate of Jack’s that she disliked. For her master, she would do this. After the deed was done, Chloe found out that the reason she was to serve Jack’s associate was because Jack had lost a card game and Chloe was the prize. She was heartbroken and so was I. I felt for her. This was a man she loved and served and as her Dom, it was his job to care for her... In her eyes and my eyes he had failed her!

How the story ends I will leave to you the reader to find out. I can't give it all away. Whilst reading this book, my mind was full of questions. Would I enter into a contract with a Dom. Would I be able to be a sub? Would I be able to do everything that was asked of me like Chloe? I mean, she did everything! My answer...

Doms challenge their subs. Is it their way of seeing how far they can push them? How far they would go? It seems to me all the way. I have no qualms with the BDSM lifestyle. Whatever makes you happy. Chloe and Jack were very much in love and happy.
Al Daltrey. I bow to you sir. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed your book. You're writing is impeccable. Grammar was perfect and the words just flowed fluently throughout. The safe word you used for Chloe did make me smile and giggle, ha ha. I feel Mrs D's input was invaluable. Thank you Mrs D! More importantly, thank you Al for writing this book. The pleasure this time was all mine.

Two Views=Double the Fun!

After reading Al Daltrey's first book Testing The Submissive I said, that book needed to come with a warning. The warning being, it will change your mind how you think about the BDSM world. Discovering Al's writing has been nothing short of a "wake up call' for all of us erotica readers. DIFFERENT from anything you've read before. So as I started reading A Condo With Two Views I thought I was mentally prepared for another Al Daltrey book. Well once again I have been thrown for a loop. This book takes the reader into a completely different direction. Testing The Submissive was the epitome of reading about the BDSM world. A Condo With Two Views takes us through what it would realistically be like sharing a Dom/Sub life as a married couple. Al does a great job taking the reader through this journey with his exceptional writing skills, painting a picture for us to see into the day in and day out life of this couple. It's funny, actually hilarious at times, a sweet love story and a really great read. Oh, don't get me wrong it still has the hard limits and pushes the envelope on Dom/Sub life. But if your looking to read a realistic POV about the life of a married Dom/Sub couple this is it. Just remember, Al doesn't sugar coat anything.

The two POV style is a refreshing and very unique way to tell Jack and Chloe's story. But for me, I loved Chloe's POV the best. Jack is Jack. He loves Chloe with all his heart but he is a true Dom and when he is in Dom mode, look out. He pushes Chloe, pushes her to where you question, how does she do these things? She does them because she loves him as her husband first and foremost but also loves and craves him as her Dom. But don't think for one minute that Chloe is not a strong woman with her own mind and a truly equal kinky side just like Jack.

Can the two worlds really exist and work together? Will Jack be able to protect Chloe and remember she is his wife and not just his submissive. Or will he forget the most important role in his life and mess everything up. I would never spoil that for you the reader, so you will need to one click this one to find out.

I will promise you this story will have you thinking and questioning all the thoughts that will fill your mind wondering, do I really want and could I handle a Dom/Sub relationship? Once again Al Daltrey takes us on a wonderful ride with A Condo With Two Views. A ride you don't want to miss!

Gorgeously Authentic

Sometimes you need a book that isn’t full of the classic battle between good and evil. There are no nefarious bad guys. No knights in shining armor. No insane drama that wrenches emotions from you with or without your permission. Sometimes you need a book that gives you an inside view on incredible people, just living their lives, figuring it out as they go. Sometimes you want to peep through the keyhole into someone else’s life and just see how they live for a while.

A Condo with Two Views is exactly that opportunity to peek into someone else’s life and be the proverbial fly on the wall as they go about their daily life. With one little unexpected surprise – Jack and Chloe Gibb are a BDSM couple living completely normal, every day lives most of the time. But this story gives readers an inside view into what that really looks like - what does a newly married couple who participate in some of the more kinky aspects of the BDSM lifestyle do everyday?

Jack Gibb is a successful businessman. He works hard and he loves his wife all the way to his bones. He is also her Master and occasionally lends her out to fulfill sexual tasks as he sees fit. He is strong, kind, tender and unyielding in his expectations. He is also human and we get to see how that humanity serves as both the strongest and weakest pieces of his Dominance.

Chloe Gibb is a strong, independent, smart and witty woman. She too works hard and loves her husband down to her bones. She is also a submissive and an eager one at that. She places herself completely in the hands of her Master and the level of trust she displays is absolutely gorgeous to watch. Her incredible inner strength is also amazing to witness.

These two characters are a match made in heaven. They compliment each other beautifully in so many ways. The way that Jack takes Chloe’s submission and channels it into tasks that please them both is both ingenious and very fun to read. The genuine love between them serves to deepen not only the meaning behind every task and interaction, but also the reader’s investment in the characters and story.

A Condo With Two Views is not only an honest love story between two people living their lives, but it’s also a truly authentic view into the BDSM lifestyle. When there are so many books written these days that incorporate elements of the lifestyle into their storylines, it’s absolutely refreshing to read one that gives such an authentic and loving portrayal of its possibilities.

Far Removed from FUBAR, this is a Fine Compilation

Paul Dickson is a superb etymologist of language who has compiled many books over the years relating to how we use words and phrases. His baseball dictionary is famous for its compilation of sayings and their use and evolution. "War Slang" is another example of this master's efforts in understanding the English language and how it changes over time, this time related to wartime phrases. This work is organized by war and proceeds chronologically from the Civil War to the present. Each war is a discrete chapter in the book, but there is a strong index that helps researchers find what they are looking for. It updates the last edition, published in 2004, and includes updates from the recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

It is both fun and illuminating to read this as a work from cover to cover, but it is also a fine reference work for searching individual phrases and learning how and why they were first used in this way. I'm well familiar with such terms as "Archie," WWI slang for antiaircraft fire, and "check six," looking directly behind you for enemies, from the cold war era. Some of the newer terms were both funny and interesting. There are "penguins," Air Force personnel who do not fly. Other terms for them are "ground hogs," "wing weenies," and "chairborne rangers." There are also ROAD soldiers, "Retired On Active Duty"; Canoe U., the U.S. Naval Academy; and WAGs, wild-ass guesses, and SWAGs, scientific wild-ass guesses.

This is a fascinating book.

Good overall, but slightly less than completely strac...

In "War Slang", Paul Dickson tries to address the unique lexicon of those under arms in a way similar to those who play baseball in his earlier book "The Hidden Language of Baseball.

Those who have served (or spent time with those who have served) will recognize many of the terms presented here, and those who haven't --but who appreciate the lexical texture that arises from a community of discourse-- should both enjoy this book. The terms used here come variously from the mundane (the initials of acronyms) the profane and the tragicomic filters of those who face both rapid danger and burdensome bureaucracy.

Especially in the 3rd edition's updates on Afghanistan and Iraq, the book contains a few entries that are either erroneous or need additional research. The book presents "ate up" as somebody unconcerned with the appearance of uniforms and shoes. In my experience, while also pejorative, it means exactly the opposite (and includes being overly concerned with superficial matters... possibly to the exclusion of legitimate concern for combat readiness). The book also defines "CENTCOM" as US Central Command in "Qatar". While CENTCOM has a forward HQ in Qatar, its actual HQ is in Tampa, FL. Attentive readers may find other lapses in research or disputes with real-world usage.

WWI section

I bought this book primarily for the section on WWI, which is fairly good sized (about 75 pages), so that is the only section I've read. If someone is considering this book for historical research on that period, I found the information to be accurate and well backed up with period sources. It's a pretty sanitized selection of words, however; there are a couple examples of expletives but hardly representative of WWI military personnel's full vocabulary. Part of the issue was probably the fact that the original period sources that the author relied on such as newspaper articles and war slang dictionaries published in the 1920s weren't allowed to print some of the saltier terms; the author could have therefore thrown the net wider and looked original plays from the period (which weren't censored) such as The Big Parade and What Price Glory? (which was notoriously profane!; both were made into films in 1925 and 1926 respectively and though not reflected in the inter-titles, lip readers can see the characters on screen clearly using some of that colorful soldier language) or the unexpurgated version Frederick Manning's WWI novel Her Privates We(1930). But, as far as what is included: I find it to be helpful and the bibliography (there is one for each section) will be very useful.

The angry ranting of an obscure, small-party politician, the first volume of Mein Kampf was virtually ignored when it was originally published in 1925. Likewise the second volume, which appeared in 1926. The book details Hitler's childhood, the "betrayal" of Germany in World War I, the desire for revenge against France, the need for lebensraum for the German people, and the means by which the National Socialist party can gain power. It also includes Hitler's racist agenda and his glorification of the "Aryan" race. The few outside the Nazi party who read it dismissed it as nonsense, not believing that anyone could--or would--carry out its radical, terrorist programs. As Hitler and the Nazis gained power, first party members and then the general public were pressured to buy the book. By the time Hitler became chancellor of the Third Reich in 1933, the book stood atop the German bestseller lists. Had the book been taken seriously when it was first published, perhaps the 20th century would have been very different.

Beyond the anger, hatred, bigotry, and self-aggrandizing, Mein Kampf is saddled with tortured prose, meandering narrative, and tangled metaphors (one person was described as "a thorn in the eyes of venal officials"). That said, it is an incredibly important book. It is foolish to think that the Holocaust could not happen again, especially if World War II and its horrors are forgotten. As an Amazon.com reader has pointed out, "If you want to learn about why the Holocaust happened, you can't avoid reading the words of the man who was most responsible for it happening." I am not here to criticize or defend Hitler, but as a historian, professor, author and a journalist, I am here to release a factual, fair, unbiased and objective analysis of this book, yet first to make a few points:

I. In America we don’t ban or censor information (like this book is banned in Germany), on the contrary we allow public to read Communist, Fascist, Islamic, Nazi and all other ideologies’ texts, and then judge for themselves about these texts. This is called freedom of information in a democracy.

II. If you avoid the public to read something, they will go to great extent to discover what it is that you avoid them to read. Every action causes a reaction, equal and to the same power, yet in the opposite direction.

III. As much as Hitler is criticized and hated in the West, yet he is admired and adored in many parts of the world such as East Europe (Romania, Bulgaria, and Hungary), Middle East (Turkey, Iran, and many Arab nations) and other areas. So it all depends who you speak to!

IV. Like it or not, Hitler is the architect and creator of a global political and economical ideology named National Socialism (Nazism) which any free thinker or curious person must study like he studies any other ideology.

A Classic!

This is just a great book (witness how the few used copies are all going for higher than list). We have about 4 EMG/NCV atlas-type publications hanging around our EMG lab, but everybody reaches for the Perotto. It's been out of publication for a while, which caused many graduating residents to covet it (and some to copy it), but they just did a reprint in June so hopefully this will increase supply. The single most useful feature is the cross-sectional anatomy diagrams. I can tell at a glance how deep I need to go, and what high-value targets, so to speak, that I might hit if I miss the mark (arteries, veins, that sort of thing). Love it!

Best Guide!

This is the best EMG book in the lab. It breaks each muscle down by its root, plexus, and nerve. It describes how to find the muscle and activate it. The pictures are invaluable! If I have to test a muscle I have not done in a while, I immediately go to this book. Highly recommended if you perform EMGs.
