Don't think of buying a home in Tuscany (or Italy) without this little book.

Very informative, straight forward, and enjoyable to read. Anyone thinking of buying an old home to restore, or a "modern" home that may need occasional repairs, especially in Tuscany, this is the book for you. It also give you a realistic view of how things are done in Italy, and he does it with a nice touch of humor. This not only covers that Villa you have been dreaming of restoring, but also discusses the advantages of buying a small apartment in a city or small town. He also addresses, I think appropriately, the responsibility foreigners have to care for the land, as well as just buying the home that is on it.
I recommend this book, not only for those who are seriously considering a permanent move to Italy, but for those who would like to dream a bit, but through a lens of reality.

Indeed a must-read for anyone looking to buy property in Tuscany

When we set out to locate, purchase and restore a house in Tuscany, we looked everywhere for useful books on the subject. Having now read several, I can say that this guide is not only the best of the bunch, it should be mandatory reading for anyone looking to buy in this region. Well-structured, easy to read and understandable for the layperson, this book demystifies the sometimes bewildering world of Tuscan home buying and restoration, and provides practical advice for tackling an array of issues, from the bureaucratic (building plans, permits and property taxes) to the functional (repairing and restoring roofs, windows & doors, flooring) to the aspirational (how to locate and build a swimming pool).

Right information, right amount of detail

This book is a highly practical, easy to read primer covering all of the key considerations for both property owners and long-term renters. While I'm not yet in the market for a Tuscan home, I found this book helpful to think with confidence about that exciting possibility. The author's clear explanations about what one needs to know are insightful and his knowledge and tender loving care of old properties is apparent. It contains the right amount of detail -- very well done.
