Blackwater: A Tale of A Town, a Family, and the River that shapes their lives.

Blackwater is a unique story of a town flooded by a river and the mysterious woman who arises from it. Elinor is found on one of the floors of a large hotel after the water has receded a bit by a member of the Caskey family in a rowboat with his servant. It is dated in a positive way, true to it's time. Michael McDowell does a fantastic job developing the characters of the town of Perdido over a few decades in this 6 part story. The supernatural aspect of the tale is well done. I really liked the story. The river is as much of a character as the members of the Caskey family. Highly recommended for the avid reader but you have to love the darkness too.

A real treat !!!!!

The single most fabulous southern gothic novel ever written. Michael McDowell has no competition here !!! Flawless in MY opinion. THE ELEMENTALS, which I have just reread, is my second favorite. I enjoyed it more the second time than when I read it when it was first published in the 80's. What a tragic loss that Mr. McDowell left us so soon.
